I passed on the first initial ones and realized I needed to learn this trade, So I found a company that washed them, they didn’t hand wash them like I do today but they cleaned them with a lot more skills than I had at the time. I would later go to my first training school and learn how to hand wash the modern rugs. After going to school the only problem would be how would I come up with all this money to buy this expensive equipment. Compressor, large rubber wash pit, hanging pools, fringe tools, and a long list of other supplies. So I continued to grow my modern rug cleaning company and I made it my company policy with my team of crews that if you steam clean a wool modern rug in a client’s house you will lose your job. I had no intention of paying out tens of thousands of dollars for a rug.
One day I was sitting in my office and my office manager told me we got a postcard from a guy up the street who hand washes oriental rugs. So we rushed over to this plant and low and behold it was all the equipment that was used in the rug cleaning class I attended, the Australian cleaning system. I immediately agreed to pay his higher price for the hand washing of my client’s rugs and I looked around this 5,000 square foot shop and said to the universe that I was going to control the rug cleaning trade one day out of this building.
After about six months of giving this guy my rugs to clean he was approached by this company that has been in business since 1986 Oriental Rug Care located in Pompano Beach Florida. My supplier didn’t have the money so we agree to buy the company together. We struck the deal and we became partners and I would start going to trade shows because of my commitment to this trade and the need to meet other people that I could talk to that also owned and operated a rug cleaning business. I forgot to say, my partner owned the building with his brother, which in less then a years time I bought his half of the building interest from. So wow, I felt like a real owner of a rug cleaning plant. So proud and eager to grow this business I was. So to wrap up the story, during the great recession I bought my partner out of his half of our oriental rug cleaning company, then towards the end of 2011, I bought him out of the building. Now I own the bank a lot of money on the mortgage so committed to this trade I am. I love cleaning rug and seeing them transform into it’s original clean look.
