Today was a normal busy day at our plant.  Two flokati rugs come in our shop one hour apart.  They are both different quality when it come to thickness but just the same, they look modern and soon to be clean and fluffy again.  I should of taken a video of the dust that came out of the rug, but since the holiday season has started we are getting large volume of rugs coming in from repeat client or new people seeing our building driving by on Dixie Highway.  Anyways our team is now coming in at 6:00 in the morning to do the dusting so they can start the cleaning by 8:00 am. Turn around time on cleaning is a very important goal for us.  I can report that we have a turn around time of three to five days.  Of course management insists on three days.

Since we guarantee odor removal with the decontamination treatment, we at times have to clean the rug twice.

I would like to add something more to this story, before this day ended we got another modern white shag rug in our shop that came from Bal Harbor, a 14  X 12 foot that must of been in some huge condo.  Thank goodness for Fido for making a mistake on it!

This morning was beautiful and it was a perfect day to dust rugs.  Properly removing the dirt from the rug is the most important thing before starting the cleaning process.  You will see in the video the amount of dust that comes out of the rug.  This rug looked clean when it came in, but the client knew it had been years since she had the rug sent in to a rug cleaning plant.  She contacted us after hearing our company advertise on the local NPR station and plus she said she saw our truck in her neighborhood.  Wow, I was so happy to hear that, lets me know that the company is really getting out there.

 Back to the video, I don’t think you will see but the staff is wearing a respirator. We take every precaution necessary to make sure our staff stays safe and healthy. The photo below is a huge Edwards Fields rugs, 13 X 30, that came in last night.  A client from Aventurahad it in obviously a huge room in their condo.  They called asking us to come by and steam clean it.  No way we would ever set our company to take on that type of liability.  Edward Fields Carpets have been around for 70 years and in most situations they are very expensive since they can be one of a kind.  We told the potential client that we had to pass on it and wished her luck and told her to be very cautious in hiring a carpet cleaner to steam clean it.  Needless to say we ended up picking it up since she didn’t want a carpet cleaner to ruin it because it cost tens of thousands of dollars.  Here’s a photo of it on the chart, actually two charts.  I hope to post photos of the rug being dusted.

Today was a typical Monday with a bunch or rugs coming in. What was unique is a catering company came in with four matching salmon color area rugs that need to be washed.  The driver told me it has been a long while since these rugs have been cleaned and that our company was recommended to wash these rugs to make them look new again.  These 8 X 10 area rugs are nylon piled rugs that were most likely wall to wall carpets that were cut and binded so they can be used for events.  Since these rugs have a glue backing that has a lot of crack on it from heavy stuff on it, we have decided that we aren’t going to totally submerge it in our washing plant.  Instead we will do our signature dusting on it and put and floor machine on it and give in a good deep cleaning.  I know the catering company will be quite pleased when they come back to pick it up.  I was told they have ten more.  We love cleaning rugs, keep them coming in.

Good Day everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. As we wind down, vacations are over and it’s time to get back to work and send the kids off to school. Its bitter sweet isn’t it. I recieved a gift from my favorite Aunt recently.  She is at the age now (in her 90’s) and she called me over to go threw some things as she will be not living alone any longer.  Among all the heirlooms was something she wanted me to havean old, Oriental Rug I hadn’t seen lately. It was rolled up and hidden away.   Because of my friends at Oriental Rug cleaning company.  I have been learning about the diversity of the different rugs, how they have been woven and for what purpose .  And now I had received a rug from my aunt and she said her parents got from the orient.  All I knew it was dirty, didn’t look like much of anything, but because she insisted on me taking it from the home she was moving from, I agreed and propmtly took it to my friends at Pride Carpet , also owned by my friend and where they have a  cleaning facility along with  Oriental Rug Cleaning.  I would walk around looking at the variety of rugs in the cleaning process, I must say the Chinese Rugs I have seen are esquisit!

So I lug this rug over to the warehouse, (not only Pride Carpet Cleaning and Oriental Rug Care are housed, but also Colonial Floor Care, my friends that had helped my husband and I with our rental rennovation Terrazzo, concrete, and soon to redo the garage…but that is for another day.)  So I bring my rug there, and by golly!  It sure was a Chinese made rug, from the early 1900’s, In the 1920’s and 30’s many rugs in  a vaguely Art Deco style I found out that these rugs were Hand Woven, but  produced for the American market in rug “factories” in Hebel and Shandong provinces. Although rugs were woven by hand,  the workshops were highly organized with, foreign companies controlling all phases of the production.

Many rugs from this period had plain grounds of pearl grey or navy with wide solid-color borders and simple floral spray design elements. hWhich is exactly what this rug looked like.  So I had them hand wash it, and because the fringe was in terrible condition I then replicate the fringe and replace it also.  When I brought the rug home, it was just beautiful. I almost didn’t want to step on it, but it had taken a beating for almost 100 years, as this rug was purchased when my Aunt was a child and her father was stationed around that area and they traveled.  So it had been in the family for almost 80 years.

So getting back to Brussels in Spring and another vacation desationtion for an upcoming vacation.  While talking to the owner, he told me about this carpet they do every year with flowers!  He showed me a quick look at some pictures he had so off I went to start looking into this.  Doing my research on this distenation I found out that this festifull  had been started by the Begonia growers in the area,  Each year the carpet is different depending on the quality and quanity of these amazing blooms!. I could only gasp at the pictures.  Now I wanted to go to there!

The basic dissimilarity between a handmade, also known as hand-knitted rug and machine made rug, is that machine made rug does not have knots. The threads are put in knitting machines using machines only and then securing them using latex backing. So when touched, the back of the rug feels rough and forms a grid like appearance on the back side of the rug.

Hand knotted Persian rugs outlast the machine made rugs and last more than 50 years longer. In comparison to hand made rugs, machine made rugs lack originality, durability, charm, and potential money value. Initially, machine made rugs are pocket friendly but they fail in the replacement price offer, for example, last only for ten years to the maximum. In addition to this, inflation also contributes to the little resale value involved with machine made rugs. It is more practical to pay some extra amount and opt for hand made rugs. Even after ten years of use, a hand made rug may offer good resale value. Actually, they are considered to gain more value as they become old. Once a synthetic rug is bought, it does not hold any resale value.
