Tafrish rugs are well-known for having geometrical or animal
patterns. Generally they come in very good quality.
Weavers use Persian knots in Tafrish rugs. The quality of
a rug can be determined by the number of knots which can be
seen through the backside of a rug. The total of knots fluctuates
between 120 KPSI to 475 KPSI. Warps are generally cotton whereas
wefts are either wool or cotton.
Although powerful blue and dark red are the dominating colors
in Tafrish
rugs, brown and soft green colors can be seen in the most
recent rugs.
The size of Tafrish rugs varies between 4x6 feet to 8x10 feet.
Tafrish is one of the most important rug weaving centers in
Iran. The rugs made from this region are exported to many
western countries. Weavers in this region generally use their
own elucidations to create a rug. They use either the symmetrical
or asymmetrical Turkish
knots.
