Serab rugs have their origin in the northwestern Azerbaijan
province of Iran. The people weaving these carpets are mostly
semi-nomadic Turkish
tribes and the designs of carpets reflect their origin.
These rugs are popular for their doormat size rugs. These
rugs have geometric patterns and are of excellent quality.
The layout of these rugs is long and has decorative designs.
The medallions are hex-columned, meaning that the weaver attaches
two to three hexagons to each other. The background of these
carpets has camel hair and the borderline is zigzagged. The
carpets have mainly blue, red and brown colors. Usually the
background of these carpets is not very intricate. Serab carpets
and rugs come in various sizes mostly medium and large sizes.
Predominantly blue and red colors, with ivory were in use
in the older carpets. However, the newer carpets are available
in brown, blue and soft green colors. The texture of this
carpet is thin. It has soft wool and a tight pile. The wefts
of Serab carpets are of cotton or wool and the warps are weaved
from cotton. These carpets have both Turkish
and Persian
knots. The quality of the carpet depends on the number
of knots. All these things make these carpets one of the finest
and nicest looking carpets available in the market. Therefore,
they have greater demand than other carpets.
