Saveh is the name of a city which is approx 80 km south
of Tehran and it is the place where the mass of Shasavan
tribe resides. Besides rugs, they weave mostly loading bags,
animal trappings and mafrashes. They frequently use Kiim
and Soumak weaves.
Saveh rugs generally possess geometrical patterns. The weavers
use Turkish
knots so while checking the quality of a rug, an inspection
on the backside should take place. The quality of a rug
relies on the sum of knots. Higher the total of knots, better
the quality and so higher the rate.
These rugs are of exceptional quality and durability is one
of their best features. The size of a Saveh rug varies between
4x6 up to 8x10 feet.
Weavers use soft wool in the making of these rugs. The pile
is slim and tough. Warps is often cotton whereas weft is either
wool or cotton.
They often use intense red and influencing blue colors with
ivory creating a stunning contrast. However, with the time they
are showing new colors in their rugs such as brown, blue and
soft green.
The rugs made in Saveh region are of high quality and can go
well with any room décor.
