Kashan is a large town, an oasis in the desert of Kavir,
Isfahan province, Iran. This is one of the archeologically
documented sites to show indications of prehistoric man.
The carpets produced in Kashan are of the finest weave and
the Persian knots are 120 to 842 kpsi. These carpets are among
the most expensive carpets on the market, and are even more
expensive when sold as fine art pieces made of pure silk thread.
Colors of Kashan carpets range from blue, ivory, light green
and red.
Kashan carpets date back to earlier than 1945, and most of
the older carpets are of natural dyes, adding to their overall
value. The newer, chemically dyed carpets can sometimes be
of lesser value due to their lower kpsi count. Otherwise,
most Kashan rugs and carpets are sold at high prices on the
market due to the fine weave and excellent artistic designs.
