Karaja rugs are unique rugs. The designs
of these rugs are matchless and greatly differ from the designs
of other northwestern Iran
carpets and rugs available in the market. These rugs have
very decorative and beautiful designs. In addition, Karaja rugs
have excellent quality and are durable as compared to other
rugs. Simply stating, these rugs provide the best of designs
and quality. These rugs are available in various sizes, but
most of them are available in medium sizes. This does not mean
that you do not get rugs in large size, as big size rugs are
also available.
In ancient
times, these carpets mainly were available in dark red color.
However, newer rugs and carpets are available in lighter colors
as well as ivory backgrounds. The texture of these carpets is
made of tight pile, cotton and wool. The warp of karaja carpets
is made of cotton and weft is made of wool or cotton. Most of
these rugs have Turkish
knots. The quality of carpets mainly depends on the number
of knots. The weavers of this carpet are of Turkish origin and
thus, they make use of Turkish
knots while designing these rugs.
Typically, these rugs are designed without the help of sketching
or graphing, instead the designs hugely depend on the imagination
and tradition of weavers.
