In the world of beautiful rugs, Borchalu is established
as a prominent name. Borchalu
rugs are hand crafted, superb quality single wefted
carpets. They are in high demand because of their style,
value, resourcefulness, glory and long life.
Borchalu is a Kurdish
district in the northwest region of Iran.
It is well-known for production of outstanding ethnic rugs.
They primarily feature long and slender shapes. These rugs
are hand-woven by itinerant people residing in distant regions.
To make a Borchalu
rug, single knitted rugs are linked with lop-sided knots. These
rugs are among the most flowery and elaborated prepared of all
ethnic rugs. They feature the bright and vivacious colors. In
a very famous design of Borchalu rug, a round flowery medallion
is placed in the core of a meadow of flowers decorated in splendid
hues of reds with blues, ivories and greens.
The warps are normally of cotton whereas the wefts are of wool.
At many times, the pile is wool even though the weaver rarely
may mix silk with the intention of highlighting a portion of
the design.
The design of Borchalu rugs is exclusive with an allover pattern
with intense wine-red with some ivory and navy as the focal
colors.
