Arak was founded in the19th century; formerly it was named
as Sultanabad.
It is a major hub for agriculture but the city is also well
renowned for its rugs, metalwork, pottery and carpets. The
history of its rug weaving business takes back to 17th century.
Each pattern of a rug has a tradition of being woven for
several thousands of years.
Arak
rugs have tremendous appearance. These rugs are available
in a multiplicity of designs and they belong to the cluster
of most stunning rugs. They are emerging as the most adored
rugs in the western countries.
These rugs are normally made of soft wool, slim and very well

either wool or cotton. Occasionally goat hair is also utilized
for the base. The wool is spun by hand generally from the weaver's
sheep.
These rugs are generally tangled asymmetrically with Persian
knots. The number of knots
fluctuates but average is around 120 KPSI.
Arak rugs normally come in various sizes but most of them are
midsized i.e. 4x6 to8x10 feet. The main colors used in them
are blue, dark red, ivory and soft green.
Arak rugs are very beautiful and thus in a high demand from
throughout the world. All these qualities make them very expensive
in comparison to other rugs from the nearby regions.
